Singapore:Labour movement wants it to be compulsory for cleaning firms to follow NWC guidelines

When mandatory licensing for cleaning firms kicks in next year, the labour movement hopes that following annual tripartite wage guidelines will a licensing requirement for firms.
The Government has previously said that it will incorporate the labour movement's progressive wage model, which sets minimum wage standards, as a licensing requirement.
On Monday, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) secretary-general Lim Swee Say said he hopes to push for National Wages Council (NWC) guidelines to be part of the progressive wage model too. He was speaking at the launch of the "I Care for My Cleaners" campaign by the NTUC.
This would mean that cleaning firms will have to abide by the guidelines. This year's NWC guidelines, for instance, are for a pay rise of at least $60 for workers earning up to $1,000 a month.
